It’s a weird one this and it only really to applies to church weddings. As you come out of the church, all freshly married, you may find that people stand a polite distance away from you. It’s like couples have some sort of force field around them. I think the guests feel that they will be getting in the way if they come and say hello to you or that they are not high enough up the pecking order to steo in and congratulate you first. It’s all wrong but as ever, you are the ones who have to cross the line and show everyone that they should come and say hello etc if they want to! You might have to go up to them to say hello and get the ball rolling. Once they realise that you are fair game all hell will let loose.

I sometimes think that if the photographer hangs around the couple immediately as people leave the church then they assume there will be some sort of endless procession of family photos. To counter this I tend to get out of the way and encourage everyone to mob the couple. The party starts here after all!
