I mean no disrespect to all the Toastmasters out there, but in my experience they are pretty much a complete waste of money at a wedding. Whatsmore, they can often get in the way and sometimes be just a little bit embarrassing. Most people dont want that level of formality and it can make people feel uncomfortable. Probably the last thing you want.

  • “A toast master will help your day run more smoothly.” Really? Weddings without them sometimes run more smoothly as they can sometimes get in the way.
  • “You need someone to help get all the family into the group photos.” Not on my watch. They stand there shouting out names when it should all be done a bit more subtly in my opinion.
  • “You need someone to anounce the speeches etc.” When there isn’t a toastmaster each speaker simply introduces the next or one of the ushers is Master of Ceremonies.
  • “I’ll help you cut the cake.” Are you joking? You stand by the cake with a knife and then cut it. You probably wont need help with that.

I could go on but you get the idea. Instead of a Toastmaster ask one of your ushers or someone to be master of ceremonies and make any announcements that need to be made. He (or she) will know you both and you wont pick someone who cant do the job well anyway.
